Baer, Wolf, and Risley (1968) argued that a proper behavioral intervention must be applied, behavioral, analytic, technological, conceptually systematic, effective, and able to display generality. Perhaps not surprising, four of the seven dimensions--behavioral, analytic, effective, and generality--require the recording of data. While data collection has long been embraced by the field of applied behavior analysis, the particulars regarding what to measure, how to measure, and how much to measure are often the subject of debate. In this training, I describe practical data collection systems that allow one to make good decisions, while not compromising the relationship between therapist and client, the focus on the client, or the ability of the teacher to shape behavior in the moment. This course will focus on paper/pencil and electronic data collections systems relevant to the Practical Functional Assessment (PFA) and Skill-Based Treatment (SBT) of severe problem behavior.

Objectives

Participants will be able to…

  1. Identify key elements of a performance-based IISCA.
  2. Use a paper and pencil data collection system for a performance-based IISCA.
  3. Graph second by second paper and pencil data generated during a performance-based IISCA.
  4. Use the IISCA app to electronically record and graph data during a performance-based IISCA.
  5. Interpret performance-based IISCA graphs.
  6. Record trial by trial data via paper and pencil during Skill-Based Treatment.
  7. Graph trial by trial data recorded via paper and pencil during Skill-Based Treatment.
  8. Interpret Skill-Based Treatment graphs.
  9. Use the FTF Progress Tracking Form.

Note: This course does not cover the Garage 94 app, the ABAkadabra app, or HiRasmus app for SBT data collection.

Tips
  1. This course is divided into 2 chapters.
  2. Each chapter presents a video.
  3. If you close your browser before finishing a video, your place in the video will not be saved. Therefore, we recommend that you jot down the timestamp before closing your browser so you can quickly find the spot at which you left off when you return.
  4. After some videos there will be a short quiz.
  5. Be sure to check your spelling when composing constructed answers.
  6. 100% correct responding is required before moving to the next chapter.
  7. When all quizzes are successfully completed, you will be presented with a certificate of completion worth 2.5 BACB General Learning-Type CEUs, and a link to a feedback survey.
