Article

Abstract

In this article review, Catherine Jessel begins by interviewing Dr. Adithyan Rajaraman, the lead author of “Minimizing Escalation by Treating Dangerous Problem Behavior Within an Enhanced Choice Model.” They discuss (a) the inspiration and motivation behind the article, (b) further recommended readings, and (c) the experience Dr. Rajaraman had while conducting the study. Catherine then interviews Alexandra Beckwith, an expert in the application of Skill-Based Treatment for severe problem behavior. They discuss the specifics of (a) the features of the enhanced choice model, (b) common characteristics of participants of the study, and (c) the results. The take-home message is that practitioners can treat severe problem behavior and achieve meaningful outcomes without escape extinction.
