Abstract
In this article review, Catherine Jessel begins by interviewing Dr. Shannon Ward, the lead author of “Does teaching an omnibus mand preclude the development of specifying mands?” They discuss (a) the inspiration and motivation behind the article, (b) further recommended readings, and (c) the experience Dr. Ward had while conducting the study. Catherine then interviews Celia Heyman, an expert in the application of Skill-Based Treatment of severe problem behavior. They discuss the specifics of (a) the participant characteristics, (b) the experimental design, and (c) the results. The take-home message is that teaching an omnibus mand does not interfere with the future acquisition of specifying mands.
Objective
The participant will be able to describe the rationale for and benefits of teaching an omnibus mand during functional communication training.
