The roles of implementors in functional assessment and treatment processes vary widely. In this training, implementors will gain a clear understanding of the values and priorities underlying the Practical Functional Assessment (PFA) and Skill-Based Treatment (SBT) processes, as well as their multiple roles in these processes. Through a combination of lecture, active responding, video models, and computer-based differential feedback, they will learn how to talk about and implement the PFA and SBT processes with diverse client populations. Implementors will learn specific skills such as setting up analyses, collecting and graphing data, how to bring the joy, progress an establishing operation, prompt a skill, differentially reinforce, respond to both mild and severe forms of problem behavior, and extend the skills to new evocative situations. They will also learn the more general skills of supporting and responding to parents and becoming an effective supervisee.

Upon completion of this course, implementors will be able to explain why problem behavior occurs; differentiate between behavior modification, mollification, values-first ABA, and other ABA approaches; identify the priorities and core values of PFA/SBT; and describe their roles within PFA and SBT processes. Learners will demonstrate understanding of IISCA fundamentals, data collection and graphing, evaluation of treatment integrity, and implementation of SBT. Additional objectives include progressing establishing operations, prompting and differentially reinforcing skills, responding to mild and severe problem behavior, supporting parents, and functioning effectively as a supervisee.
This course consists of 16 chapters, each containing a video. Video progress is not saved if the browser is closed, so learners are advised to record timestamps before exiting. Most chapters include a short quiz, often using multiple-selection questions with more than one correct answer. All quiz items must be answered with 100% accuracy to advance. Upon successful completion of all quizzes, learners will receive a certificate for 10 BACB learning-type CEUs (9 General, 1 Ethics) and access to a feedback survey. Learners are encouraged to review the “Download Materials” section prior to beginning the course.
The course includes 16 chapters with the following durations: Chapter 1 (80 minutes), Chapter 2 (79 minutes), Chapter 3 (40 minutes), Chapter 4 (24 minutes), Chapter 5 (32 minutes), Chapter 6 (51 minutes), Chapter 7 (81 minutes), Chapter 8 (84 minutes), Chapter 9 (28 minutes), Chapter 10 (17 minutes), Chapter 11 (49 minutes), Chapter 12 (55 minutes), Chapter 13 (30 minutes), Chapter 14 (22 minutes), Chapter 15 (25 minutes), and Chapter 16 (8 minutes).
