The behavioral approach to assessment and treatment of sleep-related problems focuses on understanding the environmental variables (past and present) that affect falling asleep/behavioral quietude and any interfering behaviors that may impede one’s ability to fall asleep.
The assessment and treatment process for sleep is a home-based and collaborate model in which family values and priorities are incorporated in the selection of goals and in the design and implementation of treatment. Working collaboratively with the consultant, a professional-caregiver dyad will learn about a behavioral approach to understanding and treating sleep problems, conduct a sleep assessment and design an individualized and comprehensive sleep treatment, begin implementing the plan, and receive feedback and problem-solving assistance as the plan is implemented.
Consultation in Sleep
At FTF, we train professionals and caregivers in the assessment and treatment of sleep problems. Our aim is to build capacity in your personnel to provide support to parent/caregiver implementers.
The content and duration of the consultation is flexible and can be tailored to each professional’s needs. We build capacity in others to implement an efficient model of assessment and treatment within a three-step process:
- Training
- Synchronous Assessment Design and Implementation Support
- Asynchronous Treatment Design and Implementation Support
The first step a training on the assessment and treatment of sleep problems as they relate to a particular client’s needs delivered via zoom meeting or through a workshop.
The second step is process design and implementation support. Comprehensive behavioral interventions are then collaboratively developed by FTF Consultants and consultees in the context of a bio-behavioral conceptual system. During the collaborative process, we first attempt to understand the variables influencing sleep problems. Personalized interventions are then developed for children and clients of attendees.
The third step involves weekly consultative support via Zoom videoconferencing (completed within a 6-week period). An FTF Consultant supports the host organization’s personnel with implementation of the sleep treatment.
